Hello friends – how are you this evening? Great? Great.
I’ve been enjoying the evening and weekend, and what’s it called? Oh yeah, the Super Bowl. Granted, I’m pretty tuned out this year since nothing can top last year and the Green Bay Packers win. Our friends hosted a party tonight, which was awesome, but Zak and I had to head home early thanks to his inconveniently scheduled league hockey game. Parked on my own couch, I figured that I could at least turn in for the Super Bowl half time show, starring Madonna.
Don’t get me wrong, Madonna had her place in music and revolutionizing the pop world and etcetera, however tonight’s performance was just… odd and gross.
From the Egyptian theme to the cheerleading outfits, from the random L.M.F.A.O. appearance, Niki Minaj and I’m not even going to talk about what the hell M.I.A. was doing as part of this mess, to Cee-Lo leading the marching band and wearing a sequined robe during “Like A Prayer.” And Madonna ‘dropping it’ in excess of ten times, and shaking pom-pons… and not singing one real note during the entire performance(this was obviously 100% voice-tracked)? And then they ended the whole sequence with a sparkling field that said “WORLD PEACE.” Because a multi-million dollar production in America has so much to do with helping the world achieve world peace.
As I said on Twitter, at least for the 2011 half-time show, the Black Eyed Peas actually sang. So what if they sounded off-key, their performance was far more authentic than this one could ever be. Remember the awesome dance extras that filled the field?
I’ve been missing in action for awhile here, but am looking to get back to blogging on a regular schedule. Here’s what’s going on in la vida de Laura:
- I’m training for the half marathon at the Ice Age Trail 50, May 12th in La Grange, WI. This will be my first trail race ever, and I’m pretty stoked for the challenge.
- I’ve been toying with the idea of a spring marathon as well. Not sure if that will happen, mostly because I fell out of training over the holidays (sometimes it’s nice to take a break from running!) and the next few months will be tricky, schedule-wise. However, this fall I have my sights set on the full marathon at the Birkie Trail Run & Trek, September 22nd. Set on the course of the famous (and hilly!) American Birkebeiner ski race in Hayward, WI.
- Last weekend, I visited my sister Annie in Colorado Springs, which was an inspiring trip.
We hiked an insane trail, did a challenging yoga class, and had wonderful food and drinks. The very best part of the weekend was the priceless sister time. I can’t get enough of that girl!
You do the talking: What’s new? What events are you training for this spring?
See you tomorrow with a review and giveaway from Celestial Seasonings!
Cheers,
~Laura
