Welcome to a new feature on Backstage Balance – your weekly report on fugly workout gear.
You see, I believe that activewear designers have the best intentions. It’s great that their companies allow them creative freedom. However, it’s sometimes hard to believe that some designs make it to mass-production. I don’t mean to seem snarky, I have a sense of humor about these things and would like for this feature to be something funny, cheeky, silly, sarcastic.
This week: Lululemon’s Ride On Blazer.
I like the look of Lululemon’s athletic apparel. Due to the high prices, I do not own a single piece of Lulu gear (which may change in the near future, I might invest in a headband).
Their designs are urban, trendy and cute; however I simply do not understand this piece.
Fugly, no?
This caught my eye as I’m semi-into horseback riding. And sure enough, the description states: “Slim fit denim luon blazer keeps you warm and visible on your ride to the gym!” I don’t think they intended this to be for horseback riding, though… right? It looks like an English-style riding jacket, but in denim-patterened sweat-wicking material?
What are your thoughts?

Eek, that is really ugly! I love lulu, but they failed with this design.
It’s bizarre, isn’t it? Thanks for the comment!
SERIOUS fail! That thing is awful.
