Hello, friends – hope that you are enjoying a great autumn weekend! The weather was gorgeous here in Southeastern Wisconsin, and we spent lots of time outdoors. Saturday, we went boating and hiked at Pike Lake State Park, where the leaves are just beginning to change colors.

Autumn marks a transition for races – the cooler temperatures make for optimal (and comfy!) racing conditions. While the weather can be unpredictable, it seems that it just makes any race more memorable. In particular, I’ll never forget last year’s Glacial Trail 50k – the relentless chilly rain, persistent wind, and 31 miles of slick mud. This fall, there are several races that I’m looking forward to:

1. tBunk Endurance Challenge • Saturday, November 2nd • La Grange, WI

This is the FIRST year the tBunk Endurance Challenge will be held, named for local ultra-running pioneer and  icon Tom Bunk. The race weekend includes 200 mile, 150 mile, 100 mile, and 50 mile distances, and a 50k Fun Run  – guess which one I’m doing? It will be an honor to race at the inaugural year, celebrating Tom Bunk’s contributions to build such a fantastic community of trail runners.

2. Glacial Trail 50M / 50k • Sunday, October 13 • Greenbush, WI

No, I’m not racing this year (thanks to my friend Janis for scheduling her wedding the night before). I’ll be there as a volunteer at the finish line. It will be great to get back up to the Northern Kettle Moraine and to support the runners tackling this beast of a race.

3. Lakefront Discovery Run • Saturday, October 26 • Milwaukee, WI

An annual tradition for Milwaukee runners, including a wacky distance of 15k, costumes encouraged, and a finish line beer party at the Milwaukee Ale House? What’s not to love?

4. World’s Largest Corn Maze 5k Run • Sunday, October 20 • Spring Grove, IL

I originally heard of this race through an article in Runner’s World, and will making the trip down to Illinois with some girlfriends. This is a 5k run with a course that’s entirely within a corn maze… which is designed based off of a Beatles poster. It’s too weird not to check out!

5. Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon • Sunday, October 6 • Milwaukee, WI

Several of my friends, including Sun, will be a part of this classic Milwaukee autumn race. I can’t wait to cheer them on!
