Hello, friends – it’s been a few weeks. How have you been? I hope that everyone has enjoyed the Holidays. Life has been busy, but good, and I’m especially grateful to have the Holidays to celebrate with our families.

Here is a photo of Zak and me from his family’s “Wild West” themed Thanksgiving:

Gosh, the weather in Wisconsin was awesome on Thanksgiving. So warm!

I’ve made a couple of updates to the blog, and am looking forward to the new year for getting back into blogging. Most recently, I updated the fitness and friends pages – check them out!

In 2013, I’m looking forward to running my second 50k distance race – the Ice Age 50. I did the half marathon last year (my first ever trail race), and loved the course and race management. I’m also going to try the Bear Trax 20k in April.

Here’s a looking forward and looking back list, of sorts:

2013:

April 28. 2013 - Bear Trax 20k - Lapham Peak, Delafield (WI)

May 11, 2013 - The Ice Age Trail 50, 50k, La Grange (WI)

2012:

Oct. 29, 2012 - Lakefront Discovery Run, 15k, Milwaukee (WI)

Oct. 14, 2012 - Glacial Trail, 50k ultramarathon, Greenbush (WI) - Recap

Sept. 22, 2012 - Brewers Mini-Marathon, Half marathon, Milwaukee (WI)

Sept. 15, 2012 - North Face Endurance Challenge, Marathon, Eagle (WI) – Recap

Sept. 7, 2012 - Pikes Peak Challenge, 13.1 mike hike to benefit TBI research and programs, Colorado Springs (CO)

Aug. 25, 2012 - Badgerland Striders Half marathon, Milwaukee (WI)

July 12, 2012 – Storm the Bastille, 5k, Milwaukee (WI)

June 23, 2012 – Rock N’ Sole, Half marathon, Milwaukee (WI)

June 8-9, 2012 - Ragnar Relay Series: Madison to Chicago, Team Six Degrees (runner #4 ~ 15.2 miles total)

May 12, 2012 –  The Ice Age Trail 50, Half marathon, La Grange (WI) – Recap

You do the talking: What races do you have planned for 2013, any new distances?

The Bear Trax 20k will be a new for me – I’ve never raced that distance before. The course is at Lapham Peak, where I love to train, but where the hills kind of kick my ass each and every time I visit!

What does your training plan look like?

I’m starting to formulate my 50k training plan, and will tentatively begin to train on Monday, January 14. The plan is based off of the Santa Clarita Runners ultra training schedule that I found online. I’m also reading Smart Marathon Training: Run Your Best  Without Running Yourself Ragged by Jeff Horowitz in hopes of picking up a few pointers on formulating an ultra training plan.

Laura! Thanks for including me on your friends list :)

I took 2012 completely off from races and serious running, but am starting to get the itch again. Don’t have anything planned in 2013, but am *considering* signing up for something (no idea what, though). Will definitely live vicariously through your ultra training!

You bet! You’re a friend, indeed.
I’ll try and think of a few unique races to recommend – do you like trail running? I do recommend the North Face Endurance Challenge races (September, 2013 dates haven’t been announced yet). They have pretty much any distance you’d want to do, from a 5k to a 50 mile ultra.
